I have been travelling with my 7500 lb 30' Layton bumper pull behind my wife's Ford Expedition (don't ask me the gvw, no idea), and have actually tripped the lights and was told via the sign to report to the weigh scale here in New Brunswick, Canada. Being a truck driver, my response was "Pfft, on vacation!". I blew on by, and even with DOT vans all over in there, they never even blinked an eye. I asked a local DOT officer about that and he said don't bother stopping. You are a private vehicle and are not hauling commercially. No need to stop. Now tow the same trailer with my 2008 Dodge 2500 Cummins and have never set them off since. If I ain't working, I ain't stopping.
Most commercial haulers are duallys. I could understand them not even looking at your 2500.
