Have You Tested the Class As or Cs built with Hybrid Motors?

Think about something as simple as a flashlight, and the difference between those available 20 years ago vs today. Think about the difference between a rotary dial landline phone of 35 years ago and the smartphone in your pocket today. Think about the difference between a home movie camera/projector of 35 years ago vs the drone mounted HiDef cameras of today.


The pace of technology advancements will make every current argument against an EV RV moot within 20 years. Battery weight, capacity, cost...electric motor efficiency, regenerative technology, charging technology...

Yah I definetly like the technology. I’m not a fan of all the EV’s out there but some of that is personal taste. Eg. The Bolt for me is not a hit. I can’t get comfortable in it and it’s quite a bit noisier than our leaf. But for those who need the extrae 80 miles of range (230 ish) over the 150 of the basic 2018 leaf it is a nice (and quicker) option. There will be more choices by the end of this year including the model 3 Tesla although you’ll have to stand in line for that one.

there is work in progress on battery packs that will re charge in 20 mins. Mercedes and Tesla are tackling the Mid range trucking industry for now, the long range is next. We all know technology is evolutionary. Progress is being made every day. Y'all remember the 1st computers they filled a room and couldn't even do what a Hand held Texas-instruments calculator (from the 90s) could do, Now look at a LAP top and what it can do!!!
or the rotary Telephone. LOL. Now we got SMART phones with hundreds of Uses more than a rotary phone. Hey, you never know in 2020 we may have Truck Battery packs 1/2 size of what they are today. Tesla doesn't Copyright his Patents, so Everyone can use them, improve and re work them for efficiency purposes or use them for their inventions. He doesn't want snail paced progress, he wants realistic progress. He knows Technology doesn't just stand still, it is constantly advancing.

We both drive electric vehicles. I remember 5 years ago when we started looking at the leaf (the only game in town then other than the Tesla Roadster). The critics were saying to not expect much for additional range as there really wasn't much more room for energy density with the lithium technology of the time. The leaf had a 24 KWH battery back then. Now it comes standard with a 40 KWH battery and the long range version (later 2018) has 60 KWH. The Bolt also has a 60 KWH battery. The Teslas S's and X are now 100 KWH with north of 330 miles of range. I suspect you'll see a 120 KWH version within the next two years. Pretty much 400 miles of range. We'll keep driving our 30 KWH leaf and smart ED until we retire in 4 years as we don't need more than 100 miles of range but when we do I suspect whatever we buy will have a 300 to 400 miles range. Exciting times. The only time I get stinky hands from a fuel pump now is when we fill up the diesel pusher. Maybe by the time we retire they'll have a Winebago Via electric version, :)

What will give Tesla the advantage is their supercharger Network. Here is the newly opening 40 stall site in Baker California.

Turtle...sure "Ford spend 10's of millions of dollars with their atomic car idea. FAIL!" Duh. You're carring an Atomic energy plant in your car. I don't know who even came up with such a du.A. idea to begin with, I guess they didn't know much about how lethal nuclear energy is and didn't figure "Safety" into the equation.
AS for the Chevy Turbine due to its construction, the engines did not require antifreeze, a cooling system, a radiator, bearings, connecting rods, or crankshafts. The turbine engine could operate on diesel fuel, unleaded gasoline, kerosene, and JP-4 jet fuel. According to Chrysler, it could burn a bunch of unusual fuels like furnace oil, perfume, peanut and soybean oils. Had they let this car "take off" Many people would have been out of jobs, Contractors would have lost their contracts, the oil industry would have taken a major hit. Special interest groups, Politics.
We've been tinkering on the Gasoline Engine for over a 100 yrs and have nearly perfected it. Imagine "tinkering" on the turbine engine for at least 50-60 yrs. There's no telling where we would be. Gasoline engines would have been a thing of the past. But Big oil wasn't gonna let that happen.

Battery costs will be below 100 per KWh by 2020. Electric vehicles in general are way beyond proof of concept. Every manufacturer is planning on switching to Full BEV platforms by 2030 with some achieving that goal much sooner. There is already good demand for EV’s already and for the most part it is lack of supply holding things back. I believe Nissan already has north of 50,000 orders for the 2018 leaf. Tesla has over 400,000 reservations for their model 3 and their high end S and X lineup are always close to being sold out to Max capacity. The technology will work its way to the commercial side like it has with busses. It will come down to economics. Tonight’s unveiling of the Tesla semi should give a glimpse of what will be available to the short and medium hall trucking industry within a couple years. I suspect a motorhome integrator will take a stab at something within a few years as well. Charging infrastructure is growing rapidly and more stand alone solar or solar assisted sites are showing up. Wether the west can keep up to China for research and development remains to be seen but I wouldn’t want to be a major supplier to China of vehicles right now without having a serious EV program. I doubt you will see the sale of many non electric vehicles to China within a decade.
