Heated wate hose. what brand to use or not to use

Well after having the water freeze up (at hydrant) twice this week with heat tape, I have decided a heated hose will be on my Xmas list this year. I can take care of the hydrant with a trash can and a trouble light, but since my water hoses need new fitting, I might as well go all in on a new hose.

I'm going to need a 50-60 ft. hose, to cover both sides I park at.

What brands to look at or stay away from?

  • Thanks for the help. I have decided it will be cheaper to just wrap my own. With the heated ones only offering 1 yr. warranty, at the price they sell for I can wrap several of my own for a lot less $$ than what they want. Also since it's usually only 2-4 weeks that I may need one.
  • I use a heat tape and black pipe insulation. Wire tie the heat tape to the hose and the frost free and then wrap then wire tie the black pipe insulationto the hose, works great has never froze. The problem with a heated hoce is your frost free and all the fittings are still exposed. If yo do use a heated hose be sure to protect the fittings and you water source.

It's much easier to use your onboard tank than trying to keep a hose from freezing.

I have used on board tank but long stays that is a pita. I make up my own using heat tape and never a problem. However, water hose being a poor conductor requires some modification. Wrap aluminum tape around it first then attach the heat tape. The aluminum tape allows the heat to be dispursed better. I used it for several years down to about 15 degrees with no problems. Temps below that the fauset will freeze.
