Help! 2011 Ford Escape

After a year of successful dingy operation my 2011 Escape's tranny burned up. I didn't feel a thing driving my Bigfoot, no smoke, no fluid sprayed, just when I got home it wouldn't start in Neutral, and when i started it in Park, it wouldn't come out of Park. The local Ford dealer heart my tale, changed a couple of parts and then opened the pan. They said it was totally destroyed, and therefore not under Ford's 5 year 50 Thousand drive train warranty. My question for all of you is: I have read about Ford fixing all these other Eacapes, what can I use to force my dealer to do the same! Thanks, I need some sort of lever!
  • I am in the process of trying to locate a toad. I found a really nice Ford Fiesta 2011, low mileage, and contacted my local Ford Dealership, to inquire about flat towing, this particular auto, and they sent me a email with an attachment, that said starting with 2011, yes it could be towed. The manual stated that it could not be towed 4 down. So just this morning with what they sent me I took the paper and went to the dealership, and showed them, and they said they would do an oasis on the car. Guess what this car cannot be flat towed, even though their advertising stated this was a new thing for 2011. My recomedation for anyone thinking about towing a 2011 Ford product, best take the serial number, and have them do a oasis report on that particular vehicle. I am still looking for a suitable toad. Figured this is good FYI/Headsup.

  • Did you ever get the fluid lowered as per the factory TSB to reduce foaming? I've been towing my 2010 for several thou miles and I did have the work done by a dealer. So far so good but I'm wondering if I should look into a CRV when I get to the 50k mark.
  • Since your Escape was built before Ford decided to no longer approve Escapes for towing (vehicles built after 2/28/2012) your vehicle should still be covered under the Ford powertrain warranty (assuming the mileage is under 50,000). The dealer is giving you bad information. I'd call Ford customer service and see what they say. Definitely escalate the problem up the ladder until you get the response you desire - - a new transmission!
  • Chances are the best way to get action is to call the local Ford Zone Manager. The number should be in your Owners Manual.
When it comes to warranty issues, NEVER accept "no" from someone who does not have the power to say "YES".
Don't argue with the dealer. Go over his head, immediately.
Yes, Ford HAS replaced these transmissions in the past. If you make enough noise, perhaps they will replace yours.
IMO, when you get the Escape fixed, you should trade it in on a Jeep Wrangler Unlimited!
  • There's a very long discussion of the transmission problems folks have had with flat-towed Escapes at this link. Looks like in some cases at least Ford did replace transmissions.

    Good luck
