Well, I hate to burst bubbles here, but I weigh 106 pounds and had one of those plastic folding steps. Notice I said "had" the thing collapsed under me when I was standing on it. And No, I was not using it improperly, I was not on the edge of it. I was in the middle. The thing just collapsed and I had a fall. I am thinking it may have been the plastic just got tired and old as I had had it a couple of years. Now I have a nice metal step stool that is much handier and safer. three steps so can be used in a multitude of ways. So, really think about that step stool. Do you care if it gives way under you?
I'm still using the same 3 step metal ladder for the last 25 + years. It's a boon in residences with high ceilings with a fuse box(retrofitted with circuit breakers but still retains it's original name) located above the 6' fridge. Still, keeping in mind the realities of aging, my newly rehabbed apt will try to get past older aged possible infirmities and avoid having any need for the ladder.
