Help with the math???

Hope the OP is getting it that the published weights are based on that stripper
model and the best thing to do is to go out to actually weigh it

Things like the proverbial 150lb driver (that is changing and saw a proposed 180lb
change) is not just the basis for the curb, but also all the seat belts when they
figure it out

Or that my Suburban has a 'curb' weight of 5,250....while it weighed 7,200 at
the local garden scale (county certified stickered) with me (180), toolbox (+250),
misc (+50) and these options: big block (several hundred lbs more), 4x4 (several
hundred) and the highest option package available then (1996). So
mine weighs about 2,000 more than the listed 'curb' for that year's
2500 model

Here is a copy of last years smog test and note the 'test' weight, which is
the canned program using it's look up tables. Those look up tables are the OEM's
listed 'curb' for that model.

Using that and the 8,600 GVWR - 5,250 + 3,350 payload that I must have, right? :)

PS....'high emitter profile'...while it always tests cleaner than most 'cars'...

Ford's Max Trailer Towing Package has various GVWRs, 7700 pounds for crew cab 4WD 6.5' bed configurations. Ford's Heavy Duty Payload Package includes the max trailer towing package equipment, plus more and a GVWR of 8200 pounds. Ford does not offer any package called heavy tow. The tow ratings are the same for Max trailer towing package and HD payload packages.

Shipping weight does not include a full tank of fuel. Tire and Loading sticker includes a full tank of fuel but not driver or passengers.

Limit the weight of passengers (and driver), cargo, and trailer tongue weight to this sticker's weight and you should be pleased with how the truck handles.

Ready to travel, full tank of gas, everybody and everything that will be inside or in The bed of the truck when you go camping. It can include an ice chest full of ice and beverages, kids, wife, dog, fire wood, tools, toys etc etc etc. Depending on how you load your truck it can be minimal or a lot. That is your ready to travel weight.

The yellow sticker on my door includes a full tank of gas and a 165 lb driver. That totals to 421 lbs or about the difference between your shipping weight and your payload weight.

As a note... the Max tow has a GVWR of 8200 not 7700.... that is the GVWR of the Heavy Tow....

What trim package do you have on the F150? XL, XLT, Lariat, Platinum??

All of that adds weight depending on what the "shipping weight" is based on..

My trucks registration shows a 'base weight' of #4500.... ha, ha!! It really weighs around #5500 as it sits in the garage.. It's only an XLT, but is a SuperCab, 4x4 and I'm pretty sure that 'base weight' does not take that into account.... ;) Oh, it's only got a GVWR of #6250, so I don't have much payload...

Anyway, 'shipping weights', 'yellow sticker weights' only count for so much and what YOUR truck actually weighs can be very different... I know I pack way too much stuff than I need, but like having it, so there you go... :)

Once you get an ACTUAL weight ticket, you don't really know what your truck weighs... ;)

As always, best to weigh fully loaded it to know where you are in reference to the
ratings system.

Before all that, decide if you believe in 'ratings' or not.

If not, then academic and do whatever, but note that you may not
have any warranty if the OEM should find you exceeded any of their
ratings

If yes, then follow their system

Your probably using "shipping wieght" incorrectly. Who knows what is included and not included in that number, I certanily don't.

To know your real world TT maximum capacity you need to do a couple of things:

1.) Load your truck with full fuel, all passengers, and expected gear to be carried. Go to CAT scale and get front and rear axle wieghts

2.) Subtract truck total wieght from GVWR that is your GVWR payload limit

3.) Subtract your rear axle wieght from the RAWR that is rear axle wieght limit

4.) Check your reciever hitch limits

Your real world maximum payload is the smallest of the 3 above if you believe in GVWR limits

Your real world maximum towing limit is your actual truck wieght minus the GCWR

Now your real world maximum TT the most limiting between hitch payload and towing limit. For anything other than a FW and Dually it will be hitch payload.

Acdcording to these 2013 FORD F-150 TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS,
the published payload capacity for a SuperCrew 4x4 157" EcoBoost with Max Trailer Tow Package is 1840#.
The published curb weight is 5797#.

I guess it's possible the "shipping weight" of your truck could be 200# below the "curb weight". However, the yellow sticker indicates otherwise.

The only way you can know the actual payload capacity is to weigh your empty truck and subtract that weight from the GVWR.
