Higher temperature of tires

We just purchased a tire pressure monitoring system that also reports the temperature.
The two 5th wheel tires on the driver's side run about 10 - 15 degrees warmer than the two tires on the passenger side. What would cause that?
  • I agree with Pete, and will add that maybe the sensors on that side happen to be off a bit too? I don't know how well they are calibrated....or do they all drop to the same temperature when you have been sitting awhile?

I doubt that 10-degrees would make much difference.
  • What temp are you monitoring for? Tires have heat ratings. The heat rating will tell you the max heat for the tire. If you are running over the max heat then you have a problem. Problems that can cause high heat are speed in excess of what the tire is rated for, low pressure, overweight, bad bearings. As long as you are under the max heat rating you shouldn't have a problem.
