Hitch Bar

HI All, Background Ford F-350 C/C dully with diesel, I have the ford 2.5
receiver hitch came with truck.Last year when we bought the truck
my tow bar was of the 2" kind so I used the 2.5 to 2" adapter and it was ok,but hard to get everything to line up. This year I bought the Reese
54976= 2.5" much easier to use and install, but the ball is now 16" back from the the receiver. My old 2"hitch bar was only 8" back. So do you all think it's ok. I only have 825 lbs of hitch weight, and the truck
does not even care that the trailer is back there. I do use a W/D hitch
as my old F-350 was short standard cab and srw.
I have towed with the new set up and its great but I just can not get past all the extra room between the tow truck and the trailer.

Thanks Gary

  • Nothing wrong at all with the extra room as long as the truck handles well. Many people would give their left arm to have that much extra room! :W

This extra distance will allow you to turn sharper without worrying about hitting the trailer with the truck, and allow you to lower the tailgate and work back there without unhooking the trailer. I would not complain as long as the truck can handle it ok. Consider yourself lucky! :)
