We just went through this exact same thing.
It took quite a while for me to figure out a 6" drop was really 11 inches long. Add about 5.5" to every 'drop' for the actual vertical size of the shank.
After much research I found the Curt 17120 was the one we needed which is called a 9 inch drop but is really 14" on the vertical part. Amazon for $59.06 with free shipping, which is less than half the local rate for the same part which is 40 miles away.
