Honda CRV

I'm looking to downsize my tow vehicle, yet I want something big enough for four adults, usually the larger men up front and smaller women in the back....not being sexist, just the way we travel.

I know I need to look at the pre 2015 CRV, but has anyone found any issues or differences in towing a 2WD vs AWD CRV. We live in California, so AWD is not a big issue. I haven't started my search, but I'm thinking the AWD's may come better equipped, making it harder to find a nicely equipped unit in 2WD.

Anyone find this to be true?
  • Are you locked in on a CRV? Question I ask is because there are other small/mid size SUVs out there that are also very good toads. Mine comes to mind as it is a little bigger, quieter, smoother riding, better MPG, and more options...like a V6, power lift gate, and much more.

    Ron
  • I have an 04 CRV AWD towed 70,000 miles.
No battery probs and no fuses to pull. Pulls great.
  • We have a 2013 CRV that has been towed over 17,000 miles. Works beautifully and very comfortable. I had to replace the lousy battery Honda sells them with because even with the ISL Toad Charge it would go dead. Installed a battery from Costco and haven't had a problem since.
  • Problem you have with the 2015 it can't be towed. I bought a 2014 in Dec 2014. Only been towed 3000 miles so for and no problem.
  • No difference between 2WD and AWD. LX is plain Jane, steel wheels. EX is cast wheels, more stuff or an EX-L leather option. Navi is an option on EX s.

    Great car.
  • Your looking at a fine tow car. I have the 2 wheel drive. There are no differences between the two cars except the model. Ex, Lx etc.
In the later model CRV's you do have to install either a fuse switch or run a battery charge line as the battery will go dead fairly quick while being towed..
I installed the fuse switch and it works great.
You will be comfortable with 4 people. The middle model in the CRV series seems very popular and what I bought. Check out a Honda website for all the upgrades between the 3 models.
