Hot water down cold drains?

I don't make a habit of dumping boiling water without running some cold water with it.
In a pressure situation, I softened a sch 40 pvc pipe using it as a splice between the upper and lower radiator hose in a demo derby car. Of course the coolant was probably 250F and under about 15psi pressure. Dang pipe collapsed and came out of the hose clamps. Lost the race. Steel pipe next year!

We pump hot water down frozen pipes at minus -40c to unblock them and have never had issues.

So what do you do when winter hits in Manitoba? lol (-40 is the summer temp, right?)

ABS plumbing is used in your RV drain system......same material that is used in your home plumbing drain system

Although it probably does not hurt them, I have never liked pouring very hot water down the pvc pipes. The pipes below the sink are not glued (or solvent welded), they have screwed fittings with gaskets. Even at home if I need to pour out very hot water (such as when draining pasta) I always turn on the cold water to mix with the hot water as it goes down the drain.

ABS and PVC pipe fittings are not "glued" together, rather they are solvent welded together. That means the joining ABS or PVC surfaces literally dissolve and flow together, making a properly done joint one continuous piece of ABS or PVC with the same expansion contraction characteristics throughout.
