I use the Weather Underground app. Turn on location services on your phone and you can get real-time radar. Warning show up as an exclamation mark.

One good thing is to have a real paper map and keep up with what county you are in, since US Weather Service warnings are listed by county. A GPS won't show you that little piece of info.
