Had many trailers and 5th wheels since 1993 with slideouts and and multiple slideouts and none have ever failed to work just like they should nor have any leaked on top or at the side seals. It is true that if you buy cheap you'll get cheap so only buy an RV with a very good and proven reliable slideout system. Cheap RV's cut corners because they have to or they'd not be profitable doing the giveaway scenario and will go bellyup on doing such alone and quickly.
Yes, never buy an RV with a slideout that doesn't have a manual crank override built in and you'd likely never be stuck with a power slide that had failed or even if the battery or batteries had gone dead and no shore power to be had.
