How far do you go in a day?

we have done 10 hours but the trick is to leave very early in the morning after a good nights sleep. We leave a 5:30am. Even with quick stops you would be there by 4pm.
Without knowing exactly where you will be working, Holliday Lake State Park in Appomattox gets good reviews. Water and electric, dump station.

I like to do between 300 to 350 miles per day. This past July I did 425 in one day and it was a little too much for me, but that's me.

I`ve done 14 hours twice so far. after the first time I said I was going to limit myself to 10. the second time was a screwup in my math so another 14 hours. the second time wasn`t so bad, but in reality 10 is max. and as someone else mentioned if your truck and trailer is setup properly it makes a difference in comfort level.

I have done 12 on several occasions. Coming back from out west I did 3 twelve's in a row. When I know I am going to be doing a long drive like that, I always leave at 3:00 a.m. so I arrive mid afternoon.

If weather is good, I'll drive a lot on the first day of the trip. I've driven from the Detroit area to around Atlanta the first day so the second day is a shorter drive. It's over 700 miles but we make a few stops and we all get out to stretch, eat, etc. It helps that the kids ride well in the truck with their laptops, movies, books, snacks. We're driving to Florida again in February. Hopefully no snowstorm this year.

I shoot for 300 mi/day and will extend that to close to 400, but not for anymore than one day in a multi day road trip. We also try for 1 down day for about every 3-4 days of straight driving. I also won't tow at night. Some of these apparent restrictions are mainly because we have the time being fully retired and are in our 60's (don't often pass a "potty stop" anymore:p) and see no reason to "push" things anymore.

Parkview is a trailer park and RV park with FHU no bathroom, but looks fine for a week of work. James River State Park has WE and dump station, its about 20 minutes from Appomattox. Lynchburg KOA is nice, but nearly an hour; about 10 yrs ago there were a few folks who were spending a few months working at B&W.

In our part of the country, with a lot of 2-lane mountainous roads, I'm ready to call it a day after about six hours on the road.

Long ago, I did 12 hour stretches for 700 to 1000 miles and didn't think a thing of it.
Now, after 250 to 300 miles, regardless of time, I am ready to stop. I'm hungry, the rig needs fuel, my rear end hurts, my eyes are tired, and it is just time. Yeah, that's only 4 or 5 hours, but these days I am not in all that much of a hurry.

10-12 hours "road time" is about my limits to tow safely. That works out to around 500 miles in a day if its all interstate, and that is about all I can handle before I need a good 10 hours off the road and at least 7-8 hours sleep. I drive a tow truck part time on weekends so it has defintely built up my stamina for driving larger rigs for long period of times. My shifts are usually 12 hours each day and many times your getting off shift 1-2 hours late.

But I do not have the luxury of time off and my trips are more about the destination then the trip. I hope in later years the trip becomes the vacation, but that will take some more time.
