- When I had a warranty I pretty much had to go 3 states away back to the factory in Indiana 8 hours. So it had to be a big job before it would go back there. I knew going in that I was not going to have local support through the dealer network. I made the choice to save over $10,000 on purchase price by going out of state. I figured I would never make that amount up in warranty work. Now that it is out of warranty I fix anything I can. Had a slide I couldn't adjust so I took it to a dealer an hour away to have them do it.

Just curious here.
Do you drive long or short distances for warranty or any service on your RV?
I avoid having a dealer mess up basically a good thing for minor issues and if the repair is under $100 to $200 I will do it myself. An RV is not much different in many respects than what you do at home.
Also how willing are you to tackle a difficult repair yourself?
Well it all depends on what you call difficult. For me major axle work such as alignment/replacement, major exterior repair replacement such as replacing a front cap, etc. (removing and resealing a window is IMO not a dealer, but owner repair) would be beyond my capabilities or desire to mess with. Just about everything else is something I would do since I might have to do it anyway after the warranty is gone anyway unless I want to pay a dealer their high costs to do the work out of warranty. I have repaired furnaces, replaced water heaters, completely replumbed the FW system, and replaced waste water plumbing and valves. About the only repair I wouldn't attempt is AC replacement just due to the weight and access to the roof and probably refer replacement since that is usually covered for free or a minimal fee at Camping World and I wouldn't want to mess with disposing of the old refer.
Larry - dbblsExplorerThose of you that have found a good repair facility are very lucky. I have driven as far as 150 miles and have not found a good one yet. All require at least two trips to get a item repaired correctly. I do most of my repair myself because of this.
- OaklevelExplorerAbout 1-2 miles.............
As far as what repairs I will do depends on the job....... my dealer is close & charges around $60 labor rate. Things I would do 30 years ago I figure My time is worth more now & I am a lot slower LOL..... I put a whole corner of a Terry back together (frame & siding) in the 80s but would probably not tackle it now....... - wbwoodExplorer8 miles.
- PaisleyDaleExplorerClosest dealer for warranty or any service work is the Dealer where we purchased the MH - 130 miles away. But then this is where we do our shopping and this is where our Doctors are too. I am very willing to fix and repair what I can. I do all of the scheduled maintenance.

my dealer, with so far fantastic service the very few times I needed it, is less than 3 miles away.
And there are few repairs I don't do myself. Slide adjustment is one of the few I leave to the dealer. - lj2654ExplorerWhen I do take my DP to a service center it is about an hour drive. Their backlog is long waits...usually 2 weeks or more.I do everything myself unless I don't have the proper tools or diagnostic tools available.
- romoreExplorer III found a good dealer but the business has been sold to a less than stellar competitor, the lease is expiring so it is being shut down. :( The next dealer is 40 miles away and I was not impressed with him either.
