How good are your brakes ??

This afternoon... Chandler , Az.. I asked myself ...who was
the bigger fool, me (for pulling in behind this) , or the
driver that developed this loading plan ? Local P.D. drove
right by this rig. "No harm, no foul".

  • Wait till you go to China and see that type of thing but on a bicycle with a wife and a couple of kids!
  • living south of tucson we see these everyday heading for mexico. its amazing how little we see littering the freeway.
ive talked to a few of them over the years and 99% they resell down south. they hit the local swapmeets, buy up all the bikes matreses, washer/dryers etc.

weve seen them spend up to 4 hrs packing loads like that...they get real good at it...was told if they get caught loosing a load they loose thier permit to cross.
  • You can see the straps securing the load and I have seen more than this put on a small toyota truck in SE Asia...in fact you will see loads larger than this on a steel frame trailer being pulled by a Honda 250 Moto.

    Really no big deal.
  • Is he over height, over width, over length, or over weight? Doesn't appear to be an issue with any of those. Since he isn't dropping the load it must be secured OK. No foul.

Probably a lot more RV's being pulled with inadequate brakes or too small trucks and drivers that have never pulled a trailer of any size that should concern us much more.
  • o.k. , ... my impression must be incorrect. Must be o.k.

Nothing to see here. Move along. Apologies for the interruption.

  • Oz,

The wisdom of the forum has spoken. What I viewed as a potential
traffic/roadway hazard appears to be incorrect. Good to know.

No real "problem" , more an observation. If it is accepted practice,
it must be correct practice. I can say , if you saw the movement of
this load on starts, stops, turns, you would hopefully choose to
    give a wide berth.

  • Charles, I see this all the time in Az as well. I have concerns as well when following these trucks so your not alone.
  • No accounting for uninformed or care-less. Neighbor pulled in next to us a few months a ago. Hauling a 38'-39' Cedar Creek with a SWR gas F250 and his compartments were loaded with all manner of very heavy "stuff". Guessing someone told him, SURE this truck will pull that! They forgot to mention the STOPPING portion. I could have pulled his rig with a golf cart on flat ground. Could I have stopped it?

Well, he was extolling his adventure over the 4K' hills in N.C down to where he ended @2.1K where we were. He almost humorously noted to someone else that his "brakes were smoking almost all the way down". He seemed almost proud of it. Sigh.
