How long can moisture stay in walls?
A few months ago I repaired (I think) a water leak above one of the kitchen windows. It turned out to be water getting under the roof drip rail through a few of the screws that hold it in place. The water traveled down in the wall and exited down the inside of the wi!ndow, you could see that the interior Luan was soaked. After some heavy rains no more dripping, woo hoo.
Now two months later my friend let me borrow a moisture detector and low and behold its showing a fair % of moisture in that wall. My question is could this residual moisture? Because the water might be trapped in the wall?
The opposing wall of the camper shows no moisture what's so ever so I know the detector is good. Of course the percentage shown is a function of what material I select on the meter, I'm selecting wall board by the way, so the 50% I'm reading might not be accurate. If I select wood the percentage drops down to 30%.
The exterior wall is a pressed composite of fiberglass/foam/luan by the way.
Thanks
