- dcmac214ExplorerA toy always! The RV is secondary, a means to an end. Either the boat (+3/4 time) or the 4x4s. I tow the toyhauler, DW follows towing the boat. She finally got fed up to "here" with the aged little pickup's minimum tow capability (and it was a v8 too) we just replaced it with a full size Tundra.
- travelnutzExplorer IIVeebyes,
Not that many RV'ers orcampers live that close to navigable lakes or rivers etc or good fishing locations and they still need a shelter to stay in at night, cook at, and whatever. A huge reason they pull or take a boat with them even if for only 2 days. The lure factor is the water to play in or on and is what they don't have near or at home!
The western half of the USA has huge dry deserts, barren land, and rock mountains with few decent lakes or resiviors or good rivers for boating, fishing, exploring, swimming, canoeing, kayking. Unlike in the eastern half of the USA and especially the vast Great Lakes, Gulf, and Atlantic shorelines areas. Recreational waters everywhere! Kind of hard to use any boat on dry or rock ground and ever harder on a mountainside!
They simply do what they have to! - VeebyesExplorer III get tired watching tenters set up & break down camp. Making a double trip to take a boat that may or may not get used for a couple hours seems like an awful lot of work. If you are close enough from home to double trip it to bring the boat you might as well forget the camping part & do a day boat trip.

We do occasionally, but it ends up being a lot of work for just the weekend. For holiday weekends I'll pull the fiver and the DW will pull the boat. For just a few days I prefer to just relax and not have to worry about unpacking and repacking 2 different toys - just my 2 cents.
I can agree boating and camping can be too much.
Especially on a regular 2 day weekend. - J_K_LivinExplorerWe do occasionally, but it ends up being a lot of work for just the weekend. You should be able to double tow it behind your RV. What motor are you running? I'm trying to decide if I want a new e-tec 2 stroke or go with 4 stroke motor that is almost 100lbs heavier.
He's off his meds again....:B
As soon as I figure a good way, I'll be carting the 14' Alumacraft along. Best fishing boat I ever had, no need to worry about dropping bait or spilling a drink. Take it home and wash it out with a hose.
15hp Johnson, it is older but starts, runs flat out, and trolls good every time.
No double towing in MN with travel trailer--5'er, yes.
If you are using the outboard only occasionally and are transporting off the boat, the lighter 2 stroke makes a lot of sense.
I need to design or buy one of those boat lift/carriers for my truck. That way, I can park the trailer and unload/load the boat by myself.
BTW, I read where you have the Boundary Waters in mind. Lake Saganaga is a nice piece of water and isn't restricted. I've been through all the portages between Moose Lake and Saganaga, all with motorized canoes. Don't know if those connecting lakes are now restricted or not. - Bionic_ManExplorer
- CavemanCharlieExplorer IIII have a Travel Trailer. If I am just going camping my myself I take a plastic Kayak with me. If I want to take my speed boat I have to make 2 trips so I only do that when I am less then 60 miles from home.
- NYCgrrlExplorerIt's something for us to consider and I know that the TT will carry w/ ease but no decision has been made; I enjoy quiet water sports and the man prefers power.
Now that the lower Hudson River has been cleaned and NYC has embraced it's waterfront I wish I'd been able to kayak there when I was younger.
Since the opportunity is now available I decided to give DGD a present of kayaking and sail boating lessons this year. Hope it expands her horizons.
