I think the issue of crooks knowing when you're home or not, would only pertain to crooks on your own street. After 34 years in law enforcement, I can tell you it's a non issue. Someone casing a neighborhood isn't going to know if an RV is suppose to be there or not. We also live in a neighborhood where are neighbors all watch out for each other.
I try to keep a balance of storing my coach at home, maintaining a nice front yard and not make my neighbors look at my RV. I often do house repairs for the neighbors who aren't handy and often THEY don't even know when we're gone because the coach is pretty well hidden, unless you look closely.
