How to get rid of birds?

We have pair of Dove that insist on building a nest in or around our fiver. I keep it under a metal cover, and I first noticed they were building it in the pin box. I pulled all the twigs out and rolled up a bath towel and put there.

So, they decided to move it to the rolled up awning. I have a remote and kept moving it in and out to scare them away, but they always come back. Today (day 4) I pulled it out of the cover and rolled the awning completely out hoping to discourage them, but they are still hanging around. In fact one was walking around on the roof of my truck then I found the other one inside the cover I shoo'd out of there.

We plan on using it in the next week or two and don't want to drive off with a nest with eggs in it, plus they are crapping on the nose of it. What the heck can I do? These guys are persistent!
  • I have a VERY easy solution to your bird problem! Just take the camper and go .... well ... camping! If the camper is not home, the birds can't build a nest in/on it!

These deterrents are very common in my area for "flying rats" AKA pigeons: bird spike trim and/or netting. You can prolly find it at most any big box store like Lowe's, WM, or Home Depot.

I was looking at reviews on Amazon for the bird spikes and found the pic below. Looked like it actually helped them build it....lol...

  • I had a very big issue with flickers on the east wall of my home. Spring time and flickers boring holes into my house siding for nesting on only the east wall. It was very hard to get rid of them and finally ended up stringing some bird netting up from my eave down about 10 feet. It is thin netting that can't be seen from more than about 10 feet away. I used this stuff - http://www.homedepot.com/p/Easy-Gardener-14-ft-x-14-ft-Polypropylene-BirdBlock-Protective-Mesh-601R/100023615

The good news is I have not had a problem with the flickers in the last 3 springs since I put the stuff up. I was going to take it down after spring but since it can't be seen, I just leave it up. Birds seem to not like it there and just go away.

  • I can sort of relate. I fought a pair of robins for weeks, two springs in a row, trying to build a nest under our deck roof, making a dirty mess as they build. I kept going out each morning and knocking out the beginnings of their nest. They were so,persistent and so fast at building I couldn't believe it. Finally this year they did not come back! Seems once they make up their minds they do not want to give up! Keep at it, eventually they will give up!
