- pira114Explorer III use the wife method. I do everything, triple check it, then she checks. She knows nothing about it so constantly asks me "is this ok" "is that ok?" Never fails
- wa8yxmExplorer IIIOne of Murphy's Laws goes something like this
It is impossible to make anything FoolProof for as soon as you do Nature will invent a better FOOL.
What more can I say. - fla-gypsyExplorerThe walk around is my final checklist. Remember, nothing is foolproof for a sufficiently talented fool
- pawpaw47ExplorerAs was mentioned before, I just do a simple walk around looking up, around and under. It's important to take your time and really LOOK at all the important things like overhead clearance, external connections, open storage compartment doors, stabilizer jacks, connections to TV, etc.

My little trick is a final walkaround. With three important points registered: Look up (antenna, branches etc.), look around (open compartments etc) and look under. It is simply essential that I do it, and have it burned into brain that I did it. Kind of like a very conscious confirmation I tightened the drain plug, or locked my house when I left. If I cannot come up with those memories, I'll do it again just to be sure.
I do pretty much the same thing and even though I've been at this RV thing for 31-seasons I still forget things now and then, most often when I'm interrupted during the initial check list.
Yep, when I'm interrupted during hooking up or unhooking is when things get forgotten.
Also, when I sit in the driver's seat and go over what supposedly has been done - but just go over it without actually getting out and seeing that it was done. Need to get out and walk around!
I have thought about clothespins or hanging notes / beads on the steering wheel. I just have to remember what those things are for! lol - FunnyCamperExplorer III can't use things like bands on a steering wheel cause this type of 'extra stuff' to handle just drives me crazy :) :) ''just me'' :)
We do double, triple, quad walk-arounds. hubby and I do the walkaround, look up and down and sideways and do it again and again before leaving, in over 20 years of RV'ing, only 2 times did we miss something small. So far so good! - navegatorExplorerI have manual jacks, so I place the crank on the steering wheel, and to remind me of the TV antenna I have a red remove before flight pendant that is clipped to the visor, then I unhook water, sewer, electric and do awalk arround checking all comparments, then another walk arround cheking that the windows closed, awning properlly stower and then check visually under the truck for any thing down there.
I do the same inside with all the cabinet doors, roof vents and anything that needs securing, then I fire the engine and check lights, all of them after this we pull out to a new adventure.
navegator - seaeagle2ExplorerWe "road bingo" game with check off items labels.
- DrewEExplorer IIII do something similar, but use clothespins on the sun visor.
I want to add a couple more clothes pins based on my most recent trip, actually, though not for things that are spectacular problems if forgotten. (Roof vents in preferred travel positions, for example.) - rk911Explorer
