- Water-BugExplorerI hate to say it but your insurance company is going to say that leaving a damaged RV out in the weather was negligence on your part. It should have at least been tarped and you even have a barn to store it in. Insurance doesn't cover neglect.
EDIT. Depending on the wording of your policy, they may call it "Failure to properly maintain". - westendExplorerBad deal, I'd be wondering a lot with what went wrong. Sorry to hear you lost your baby.
I've restored a badly damaged trailer and the amount of labor required is quite large. I don't think it's in your best interests to try and recover it but the insurance company will let you buy it in lieu of the salvage amount they would receive.
At the end of the day, you could buy a new "baby" something lightly used and camp with your boys and Mom. I found it's not so much about the amenities but the experience that makes camping worthwhile. Another alternative is renting a cabin or RV, sometimes it's an easier situation.
Hope it all works out for you and that your health stays up, good luck. - elijahsdreamExplorerI apologize that I am not a better conveyor of this situation. Just please ask me, don't put me down please. I am only trying to locate any one that may have been in a situation like the one I am in. I have only owned one camper, and that would be true for the rest of my life.
- elijahsdreamExplorerSooperDaddy. I thank you, Sir.
- SooperDaddyExplorerI'm so sorry..I know it's "only" a material thing...but I know I've loved all 8 of my Jayco RV's and treated them very well. I too would be upset if that happened to me. Good luck and keep us posted!
- elijahsdreamExplorerWhen I first called my agent, they handle all of our diff insurances, I asked them what one they were going to call. It was stored in the barn (home owners/farm) but it was being towed behind the truck (auto) when it was noticed, but we have RV insurance. So the agent picked which one would be called. We had no control.
And I stated above, the other insurance rep (diff co) said it was delam from heat. So I guess close ur eyes and throw a dart.
we have double pain windows and used to camp in the winter, the camper was in 2 hail storms, and the nose was hit with a tree limb in one storm. None reported because there was no damage. All I can honestly tell you is there was NO water intrusion....EVER. Setting 3 years with the amount of damage that is present now....it would stink like no body's business. - elijahsdreamExplorerNo sir, I do not have any photos here. All at the shop.
- elijahsdreamExplorerWater bug, Because when I called the insurance that is what they told me to do. Someone would be here probably "tomorrow" or the next day. And yes, I asked.
- elijahsdreamExplorerTatest...oh I appreciate your questions, it helps. The adjuster said, first time, it would cost $1600. I spoke with the shop owner and he said with all the damage the estimate was around $20,000. The insurance has offered nothing yet. The people have to call me still. But the insurance guy I have worked with said it was totalled because the $4,000 side and $2,000 shipping was more then camper was worth. I panicked. As I said before, both the adjuster and the shop guy thought the camper was brand new, so I think it should be a little better than that.
And the buy the new thing, here's the catch....I am sick because I have lupus and had an aneurysm rupture in my brain. i can afford the payments, however getting a new loan probably isnt or wont happen......this is why i am so hurt. Because of their latency, i lost something very precious to me. And maybe, just maybe its because i have 2 little boys that were happy mom felt better and we could go adventuring again.
So now you know. Thank you for asking...keeping me on track!!! - Water-BugExplorerIf the trailer was stored for 3 years inside, why was it left out in the weather after it had damage? That part of the story has my wondering. It just doesn't make sense to me.
