I was talked into buying a service contract, but now....
When I bought my camper last weekend, the dealer talked me into buying a service contract. I said no thanks at first because I normally do not buy them for any of my cars or appliances. The dealer said they will take $1,000 off and drop my interest rate down by .25 percent for 6 years service contract. Now my loan rate is 4.74%.
I thought that was a great deal. Now I had a chance to really read the contract and crush some numbers. I don't think my service contract is worth it. For starters, my TT is Wildwood by Forest River, which is a low end camper. It does not have any complicated things that a higher end camper will have. The most expensive part to replace is the refrigerator. I am pretty handy man and I can either replace or fix most of the stuff for much lower than the cost of the service contract.
Another reason is the deductible is $100. The only way to get my money worth is if A/C, microwave, hot water tank, refrigerator, and maybe the DVD player all quit working at some point. That will never happen.
I was wondering what you think. I understand this is matter of opinion. I have 30 days to cancel it to get my money back except for $50 and I get to keep my interest rate.
