- LKHAExplorerCW supplied us with one after it was discovered our fuzion was delivered without a water supply to the fridge. We never bought ice all season. Love ours
- cmeadeExplorerWe bought the Dometic large IM at CW in 2014 and love it. I only use bottled water in it as many CGs have very hard water. I carry 6 one gallon jugs in the bay at all times. Thinking this will extend its life and tastes better.

We bought ours at Camping world 2 years ago. We love it! We have it set up in the basement by the door. We drink fresh Iced Tea all day, so make a lot of Ice. We dump it into a large Zipper bag and put it in the freezer as it needs to "harden" so it doesn't melt fast. I will buy another when this one dies!!
Most likely the one you bought is a Dometic. It is the exact same as many others sold under different names. I have the MajicChef and it has worked very well. I will be selling it since we now have an ice maker in the frig.
The Dometic at CW is on sale for $259. Same exact thing at Walmart is the MajicChef at $159. - riven1950ExplorerWe keep a small cooler outside for soft drinks, tea, water and beer. This saves some room in the frig. and cuts down on trips in /out and opening the frig. all the time. We were buying a bag a day of ice to keep it going.
We bought an ice maker two years ago and love it. I think it is a magic chef, maybe 125.00. Now on a month trip to the keys we buy a bag of ice to start out and the IM keeps up with our ice needs. We bag a qt bag and put in the freezer for mixed drinks inside. It sits nicely on a folding table under the awning and makes very little noise. It claims to make 25lbs a day but no way it makes that much, but it does produce really well once it gets going. - JWRobertsExplorerWe bought one several years ago and used it one outing. It would take several hours to make a few ice cubes. just wasn't worth the space it occupied.
- Big_KatunaExplorer IIWe are heavy ice users. The icemaker in the fridge could never keep up so we wanted to get a counter top model.
My DWs employers were on their third one, a Magic Chef and were very happy with it so we got one. The cheap ones dont have a compressor and dont work well.
If I start the MC around 5:00, it makes ice in a not many minutes and keeps up the rest of the night. It will be full by bedtime and we bag it.
We'll never be without one now. - jplante4Explorer IIWe started the snow bird trip without one and discovered that 10 lbs of ice in a bag takes up 1/3 the freezer space. The Sahara normally has an icemaker built in, but ours was removed by the original owner.
We bought an Igloo from Walmart (couldn't find one in a store so we got it online). Takes about an hour to make a 1 gallon Ziplock bag full of ice. It only makes the ice; you still need to put it in the freezer to keep ice. However, we tuck that Ziplock bag in the door compartment in the freezer and it takes up no room in the freezer. - HalmfamilyExplorer

We want one! Just haven't pulled the trigger yet. I keep waiting for these "sales" that are frequently discussed ($100 or less). Haven't seen them yet.
Check Sams Club, they had a whole pallet of them at club we use. $99.00 - Dog_TrainerExplorerWe just bought 1 for our snowbird trip. I got it off from Amazon. It is an Avalon Bay. So far so good we have plenty of ice without using all the freezer space. We generally make up a bag full put it in the freezer and if we fill the freezer we can take the ice out and make it as we need it. So far I am pleased with the ice maker.

We have had one for about 3 years, would not leave home without it, no problems at all, I have a friend that has had about 3 of them with problems, I think the key to keeping them working well is to handle then with care, I keep ours in the box and always dry out the interior as best as possible when not in use...
I think this is the key to "preserving" a lot of things. We try to keep most all appliances, that aren't used regularly, clean & in their original boxes. We seldom have problems.
Seems like the folks that have the most trouble with anything, well, seem to have trouble/problems with everything.
