The same thing happens at every hotel on earth.
Not. NEVER has my dl been photocopied. The only place I've had my dl copied is at a car dealership when we've test driven a car, and then the copy has been given to me upon leaving.
In europe you won't check into a hotel without a passport.
Not true either. My company has people constantly in Europe-France, England, Norway, Germany-and none of them have ever been asked. Neither did Denmark or Iceland when I was there 2 years ago.
Part of the reason why a hotel will ask to at least see your ID is to make sure you aren't usurping someone else's reservation and to make sure you are YOU.
