I've had Allstate for many years. Back when I could actually have Home owners ins on the Beach ( now have a separate wind / hail policy ) they replaced two roofs with no increase. Ex had an auto accident, no increase. Both have been a while so it may have changed now. Just got renewal info for auto policy. They state " we have added accident forgiveness to your policy, in case of an accident we will not apply the NC Safe Driving surcharge to your policy. Please keep in mind some other surcharges may apply and some discounts could be affected " I am not sure what all that means, but in your case me I would just call my agent and ask what would happen if I file a claim. I don't think that would affect our relationship or affect my insurance ( the call ). Then you would be better prepared for a decision. Like said before that is what ins is for so I would lean to filing a claim.
On finding a better deal, it just depends. I emailed all my info to about 5-6 companies last year and they could not touch what I am paying. That is on a house, rental property, vehicles, TT., But Ins. varies a lot depending on where you live and what you have covered. Good luck!
