I have the SMI and have been very satisfied with it. Even had it transferred to a newer toad from the old toad.
Dr Jay, the folks who installed my system were able to bring that LED light indicator up to the dash in the motorhome. Put a piece of velcro on the dash and stuck the light to it. So I can "see" when the toad brakes are applied. Like you, I could not see the light in my old toad hanging from it's rear view mirror.
