Stay in Play SMI

You can adjust the stay and play for less sensitivity, I have mine set very light as toad is only #3500.

If it is wired correctly on your four wire it shouldn't activate on exhaust brake light. Also behind your sensibility adjustment. That is where your inertia braking comes from.

Ideally, sell it or trade it to SMI for the Air Force One if you have air brakes. They will give you a trade in value for your Stay N Play. If you don't go that route, you have to adjust it way down, so basically it will only come on in heavy braking. You don't want the tow brakes coming up as you're using the exhaust brake descending a 10 mile long grade. You might talk to SMI and see what they say too, they've always been very helpful with me. By the way, I had an old Stay N Play that I had on a gas rig but upgraded to the Air Force One now that I have a DP. Seems to work great, I'm glad I made the switch.

I have a vintage 2005 Stay N Play, wireless. Have 40K on my current coach, no problems. Mine is wired to my brake switch, as on my previous gas coach. I haven't noticed my system being activated when exhaust brake kicks in.

I have over 110,000 miles on my unit, and never had a problem with it. I like the ability to activate toad brakes manually, and the system also has a latch mode, which takes the inertia component out of the equation, activating the toad brakes whenever I use coach brakes.

Perhaps your brake lights aren't activated with the exhaust brake switch. Some manufacturers had the brake lights come on with the exhaust brake and some didn't.

There are several threads on the IRV2. My current motorhome is a DP with air brakes, when I set up my 2015 Jeep Wrangler, I had a gas powered Class C and it worked great. Trying to use the Stay and Play with my exhaust brake activating my brake lights, I have over heated my TOAD brakes several times on long downhill grades. For now I have turned the inertia setting down as low as it will go, so I am doing without any real TOAD braking. At sometime in the future, I will change out my Stay and Play for an Air Force One. I am waiting to find a deal on the AF1 as the trade in offer was minimal. Until then I will grumble and moan a little. JH :)

All good info. Right now I just have the SMI shut off. I wish I knew where I could make the brake lights not come on with the exhaust brake - it is annoying knowing it is freaking all the drivers behind me out, and when I really do need to stop, they don't notice until it's too late.

I may pursue that a little harder.

Mile High, there is an option in the Freightliner ECM that makes that change. On my 2015 Fleetwood Excursion, my local shop tried to reprogram the ECM and the brake lights still came on when the exhaust brake activates. The mechanic seemed to think they pulled power for the brake lights from somewhere other than the factory wiring harness. If you find an easy fix, please let me know. JH :)

I'd call SMI. They are very helpful folks and might have an idea.
