Iron in the water

We use a filter from Home Depot for our home water. It doesn't get rid of all the iron but it does help. At least our white clothes stay white. The filters cost about $12 for 2 and they last a month or more before reducing the flow to an unacceptable level.

Yes, there is filters that can filter it. But they are VERY expensive to buy and keep running. A friend had one for his house and it was over $150 a month to keep running.

Can you do it? Yes, but it is very expensive.

Not small enough for a RV, but when I ran the water Dept. for a ski area I had a huge Iron filter for one of my wells. It used a green sand filter charged with potassium permanganate and I had to back flush it every day. Ugly stuff!

Iron in the water is one of the most damaging contents in water you will find. Besides the taste, it will absolutely turn your white clothing gray. Of course the effect on colored clothes is not as noticeable.

Filtering clear water iron as opposed particulate iron requires special filters.

The cartridges also remove manganese, and some sulfur compounds.

The housings can be fitted with hose connectors so they can be put between the tap and your fresh water hose.

We were volunteers at a state park in ID and the iron content in the water was horrendous.
After we left it half a day to remove the stains on the sinks,shower,
and toilet.

I used Iron Out which worked better than anything else I tried. The rangers furnished it to us while we were at the park.

However the fumes were so irritating that I borrowed my sister in law's haz mat mask she used when she was spraying her orchard so I could do the job.

About the only solution for this type water is Reverse Osmosis. Google the term for more info.

Yes they make in-line filters to extract the iron and smell... You can install on the hose or hard plumb them into the water system...

Yup, that can be a problem up here. Our neighbors installed a water softener to cut the iron taste. We went with a super water filter from Gulligan (SP) which worked. But when our well water level dropped due to the drought the filter sucked the well dry when cycling. So we got rid of it. Went with a filter which took out most of the smell and taste plus debris in the water. Regretfully I can still taste and smell it, but the DW is not bothered by it. Now we have installed a charcoal filter on the kitchen faucet which totally removes the taste and smell.

My advice is to install a charcoal filter(s) in the water line to remove the iron taste/particles. If you can try one of those RV water filters.

A water filter on the line coming into the trailer may help alleviate some of the iron. No personal experience with that but I would start there.
