Noticed a difference in my driving skills from about age 72 to 76. At this rate, people will not want me sharing the highway with them in about five years. Not terrible now, but not one hundred percent either. Still better than most of my buddies, but that is not good enough for me.
There are a lot of factors involved as we age, eyesight, reflexes etc. IMO I am actually a better driver now then when I was younger. Simple fact I use more common sense ,I have slowed down , more cautious etc.
Not sure what you mean by driving skills, but so far I feel confident in what I am doing at 72, no decline in ability. I can drive all day, but I don't have too ,and I won't .
I mentioned in a previous post that we are panning a three month trip to Alaska this coming summer with the fifth wheel. I will see how we do. We estimate it will be a 10K mile trip, stretched out in that time period we shouldn't have to put in too many long driving days.
Got a couple friends ,One quit the fifth wheel towing at 88, he felt that he no longer was as capable to tow. The other got some health issues, and HAD to quit towing at 90. I hope that I am still able at those ages, and have the good sense to at least , like the 88 year old ,to call its quits if necessary. - RoyFExplorerTurned 80 in June. Last fall, DW and I pulled the fifth-wheel from Arkansas up to Goose Bay, Labrador, and down the Labrador highway to Newfoundland and Nova Scotia. I felt good the entire way.
I walk two or three miles daily and am fit for my age. I know that I'm not as strong as I was a few years ago, and a look in the mirror shows why, but I did manage to change a trailer tire last summer after a blowout. - TomG2ExplorerNoticed a difference in my driving skills from about age 72 to 76. - BigRabbitManExplorer80 yrs here. I don’t know about towing, but my motor home and I have a lot of miles to travel! California next week, Nebraska next June and who knows where else after that.
- hawkeye-08Explorer IIII figured Dad would tow his trailer until he was 90 or more, but he sold it this year (89). Said he had been all the places he wanted to go, too much work otherwise. His sister has a 6 bedroom house and she is alone, so when he visits he can have his own bedroom..
We figured he was done towing a couple years ago, but did not want to admit it. He went out a couple times per year, always something not working right.. he was tired of it. - cummins2014Explorer

72 ,got a 10,000 mile trip planed to Alaska next June. Not an issue for me.
Absolutely not. We are both in our mid 70's and going strong. Alaska is not a trip to be afraid of.
Never gave it a thought on the age thing. Looking forward to the trip. Most likely be a three plus month trip. Leaving early June, planning on returning sometime in Sept. - HollardawgUSMCExplorer

- Dixie_FlyerExplorer IIwell the trip is on. WE leave for Findlay 10/17 arriving at Dan and Lori's on the 18th of November. Planning THanksgiving in OHio is a first for us. Planning on staying a week with them befoe heading back home. Our first night we will stop in Wytheville, Va and then make it to Dan and Lori's the next day the 18th. Lookibg forward to the trip, hope the weather is good for us. Don;t want any ice or snow either while traveling or while we are there. Our camper isn;t a four season camper so teh Ohio winter could prove to be hard for us, anyway we'll see.
