Is 70 the age to stop towing

Met a gentleman in Texas this year, a full timer, with a 45' Prevost and a 30+ foot covered trailer. Had a couple sports cars in the trailer. Was out waxing the MH the old fashioned way and it did sparkle. Then his 28 year old wife came out to help,,,, oopps reversed those numbers LOL. But he seemed to be doing fine and just turned over 250,000 miles on the home. Guess I have a few more years before not towing.

I was towing and setting up my fiver without problems until just about 70. Then, I suffered a medical situation which has taken me out of RVing for now. I never planned to quit RVing at 70, since I knew I had the ability to continue almost indefinitely. I was in great physical shape, able to hike hills and mountains until a sudden episode ended that.

Turned 78 in August. Have a 37' Tiffin Allegro, towing 2001 Chevy Tracker,
4-down. Have been full-timing going on our 11th year. No thoughts about
quitting until overall health dictates. Too good a life to give up!

My Father in law just received a renewal of his CDL at 78. His Doctor and the DOT approved Doctor both approved. He spent 40 years driving Heavy dump trucks pulling a dump trailer behind it. Does it part time in summers now to fund Snowbirding in Texas each winter. Drives a 40' diesel motorhome pulling a jeep. I'd rather be on the road with him than most others.

I hope you don't have to stop at 70. I bought a new dually when I was 70 and just bought a new fiver at 71. No plans to quit anytime soon..

OK, so we're living longer, and larger, and more better. So, tow on...:B

I am 79 and plan to tow this winter to Florida and then next winter to Texas again. The reason I plan on stopping towing is not because of mental limitations but because of physical limitations. I am finding it increasingly tiring to go through all the motions necessary in towing and using a travel trailer. Will hang it up in two more years (age 81).

I have told my sons (in their 50's) who ride with me occasionally, to be sure to let me know if they think I should quit driving. So far, they say they see no problems and are comfortable riding with me.

So Supercharged, the answer is NO. There is life for those of us towing trailers after the age of 70! :B

No, but I think one can see it on the horizon.

The real question is how honest you are with yourself. Do you stop prior to that real time, or do you go beyond, and cause an accident for someone who has no horse in your race.

If that is what you think, then FOR YOU it is probably a true statement.
For the rest of us, not so much.
I am rapidly closing on my 75th birthday, and I have no intention of quitting towing. Not with the motorhome, and not with the diesel truck. If I quit towing, I would have to sell the trailers and the ATVs, and I have no intention of doing that, either!
Maybe when I reach 80, if I live that long...

I just bought my last 5er at 68 and passed the written test and 1+ hour pre trip inspection and road test I needed to tow it legally in my province. So no, and not anytime soon unless my health goes south.

Motor homes with towds don't count. You can't back those things up regardless of age.
