IS THE EXTENDED WARRANTY GOOD?

2nd yr Rv.ers Just bought a 2014 winn. sightseer and LeMesa is trying to sell us the usa travel care warranty for 7k for 7 yrs.. seems high to me. seems I'd be better saving the $$ and using it for issues later, ANY THOUGHTS FROM EXPERIENCED RV;ers? I know dealers make a bunch from these.

    Welcome to the forum.

I don't know why you have posted the same subject 3 times but I will answer in hopes that you aren't trolling.

Extended plans are actually an insurance policy. They are not really a warranty.

They are a great deal for the dealer and the insurance company - very profitable. The dealer generally gets nearly half of the premium, that is why they push them hard.

They might be to your advantage if you have a major out of warranty failure but the odds are against you. I don't know what you bought. I would never get the coverage on any trailer, there just isn't that much that can fail. I might consider it on a diesel pusher motor home.

    Beemerphile1 speaks the truth.

    Save your money!!!
  • Do NOT buy a extended warrenty :S

I'm right in the middle of trying to use my extended warrenty on at fifth wheel trailer I bought 4 years ago.

I had a transfer swtich go bad, and after calling the warrenty folks "THEY DID NOT WANT TO REPLACE MY LARGE TV's" that got damaged by the switch. They said the screen was to big to replace - bigger than 20inch listed in the fine print of the contract.

I know now, NEVER BUY A TRAILER EXTENDED WARRENTY. The cost you pay is not worth it. I felt good about the warrenty, when nothing was going wrong, but when things went wrong, they went wrong.

Please pass the word on to others.

"The cost of the warrenty is higher than the cost for you to fix something yourself."
  • I bought a 7 year on my new TT but it was only about a third of what you are being quoted.
I know some people may not believe in extended warranties but I bought the extended warranty on my Dodge diesel as well and it paid for itself and then some...a lot some. :B
  • It is the PURPOSE of insurance companies to make money and they do a very good job of it. Only a very few in a hundred or so customers ever get more back than they paid. How lucky are you feeling :)

IF you decide you really need an insurance policy on your RV then consider waiting until your factory warranty is finished. Absolutely NO reason to pay for two or three years of coverage on a vehicle that's already covered bumper to bumper.
  • $1000 per year is way too expensive in my book. I NEVER buy the extended warranty on anything - brakes included...
