Sometimes it is nice to do a bit of everything. If I had some property that can be used as an off-grid retreat where I could put up an aluminum carport, and just unplug, that is the way to go, especially in the Texas heat, where the top of the carport would get the sun, rather than the top of the rig. of course, this is combined with going on trips to various RV parks, as well as boondocking.
Having a known, good retreat that is far into the country might be a nice thing, even if it is only a couple acres, especially if there are plenty of trees for privacy from neighbors and the road. There are blueprints on the Internet for what is known as a RV chalet (a building that completely encloses your rig, gives heat/AC, full hookups, and additional inside space.) This may not be some people's idea of camping, but there is something nice about having an area far off the beaten path that is yours, and only yours, with no lines for laundry, dump station, no need for reservations, etc.
