It's our turn now!

One thing we rarely talk about on this forum: If we don't like the weather where we are, we can turn the key in the ignition and drive to where we do. From the northern tip of Alaska all the way to the Panama Canal, and take our house with us. Now if they just built a bridge....

Going down a frigid low 60s tonight. Lucky for us between the Gulf Stream & the track of the cold air it looks like most will pass well to the north.

Believe it or not the western Bahama islands, over 1000 miles south of us, get colder temps.

Oh well, back to outside house painting tomorrow.

It is a little brisk outside. Going to go down to 20 here in Sopchoppy tonight. There are only five campsites occupied and one of them has tenters! Mostly ladies here as the guys loaded up in a pickup and went to find a place to watch The Game. I saw a Bald Eagle today, lots of white squirrels, and the sweet little white fawn. The Rangers stuck sticks in the toilets to keep the water from freezing, then came around and warned the campers not to sit down without looking first. Over all, everything is very good. In western Nebraska...we don't consider ourselves midwest but...we had -14 last night so...you don't get much sympathy from us! Just be sure you propane tank is full and run an electric heater for a while...you will get through this!

Yesterday more we had 30 mph winds and -5, which actually felt colder as we went out to feed cattle. I had to break ice on the creek so they could cross to the feeding grounds, get a drink then put hay all over the hillside so they would not fall trying to go up the icy bank. Even so, one old cow that was bottle fed some 11 years ago just couldn't get up the icy bank so I carried a large bundle over to her,wading through 6" deep icy water...in my pacs (I call them my ducky boots) well I still got wet feet. Luckily she got over later in the day.

And our gravel driveway is solid ice and a hill so...we have had to find an alternative route to get to our "barnhome on the hill"...it's all good...we are surviving...and before anyone slams me...ain't no way in hecky darn I'm taking off snowbirding leaving my 83 year old dad to do this all by himself! This is way too much fun!;)And, I'm not joking I love this stuff!

Turn the heat up please, we are headed down to Florida Gulf coast in less than 40 days. Its going to be 2 degrees when I head out to work tomorrow with a wind chill around -20. These are record setting temps in the DC area...

I really do hear you. I am from Wisconsin and I am just ROTFL every time I turn the weather station on down here in Florida.

They make the couple of hours of below 32 sound like the world is coming to an end for them!!! I get it's detrimental to the groves but jeese everyone will be snug in their bed when it actually happens! Not like the rest of the people from up North that have to go to work during it.

I just heard the weather report for Minnesota and they said it will get so cold that the antifreeze in their cars won't work?? What are THOSE people going to do?

I hear ya! there is so much to do and see in the winter. winter hikes are awesome. however- soon as we are able we will become snow birds!

Why? It's their choice. Those of us that drive to and from work in temps in single digits and snow on the ground 5 day's a week or more are doing fine. 32 degrees is tropical in some places and 22 degrees is good skinny dipping weather...it's only what you make out of it, nothing more, nothing less....and I don't live in the midwest...anyone full timing, to me, has it made, and hopefully in about 31 months, I'll be one of them:)

Not a chance! Right now is the high temp of the day at -15. On my way to work it was -28 with a wind chill of -55. Schools are cancelled again tomorrow.

However, Saturday is supposed to be a balmy 33 degrees! People come out of the wordwork at that temperature to walk, jog, ride bikes and grill. We did grill at -6 yesterday. If it weren't for the salt and sand on the road, we'd see motorcycles out around 40 degrees. At least we aren't buried in snow too.

Sorry, but I can't muster up even fake sympathy for you snowbirds.
