It's that time again!

The last big RV weekend coming up and then for many of us it's time
to think of putting up the RV and winterizing it if you live in one of the cold states. :C

Then it's time to start thinking.......

  • I agree, the best camping is just now coming up. We've been somewhere every week-end for the last several weeks now. The state parks are getting more and more empty. We stayed Thursday through Monday, and Thursday and Sunday night we were the only camper on that side of the campground. Talk about DARK nights! Awesome! No noisy neighbors, no kids riding their electric cars at 6:00 am!

We try to camp all the way until November 1, when the state parks in Indiana turn off the water. Even then, we still continue to winter camper sometimes, by bringing water in jugs, and reverting our water and cooking style back to the old tent camping days, with the advantage of warmth from the furnace and a bed off the ground!

No reason to retire the camper just because it get's cold. Yea, winterize the lines for sure, but just pretend the camper is gigantic tent with a few conveniences, and do all the water and cleaning outside. Use pit toilets or take a port-a-potty that can be dumped into a pit toilet or somewhere else, and keep enjoying that camper.... even in the coldest of temperatures!

Camping in the snow is a remarkable experience!

The best camping is just coming up from my perspective; there's nothing like the fall in the north east. :C We don't shutdown until mid-October.
  • In two weeks the kids will be back in school and it won't be so crowded in campgrounds.
  • Ours is still hibernating in the barn. t won't be on the road until after XMAS
  • I'm starting to realize I need to do fall prep soon... build some frames w/ plastic on them to cover the windows...don't need to winterize the park model yet, water shutoff in our seasonal campground is usually 2nd week of October.

We enjoy the cooler fall air and there is just something different as the seasons change. Now winter, that's a season I don't enjoy nearly as much.
  • What do you mean put up the RV, I don't understand. We camp year round. Oh sorry, I forgot I moved to the warm South twenty years ago. December through March are the best times to camp here.
