Jeep Liberty Transfer case

I own a 2006 Jeep Liberty and am towing 4 wheels down. What's the secret to getting the darn transfer case out of neutral when disconnecting from Rv???? It's a battle everytime I disconnect. Liberty users would appreciate your advise.

    Need to crawl under and inspect the pivot point 'bushings'
    Plastic bushings were used and wear out
