P.S. Early on in this thread/rant, a comment was made about "discounts" on F-150s and other truck makers in their pricing. Well, as stated, I've got a couple of buddies that paid in excess of $55,000 for F-150s in '17. Don't look like too much of a discount to me. And one other buddy just paid $70,000 for a used, 7,000 mile F-250 Platinum. Not a whole lot of discount there either.
Not to mention, you don't see (or I haven't anyways) any of those models out on the trails in Moab! How anyone could compare an F-150 or Chevy 1500 to a Jeep Wrangler is beyond me.
Also, since this is the Dinghy towing forum, for the most part a full size pickup does not make a good towed. Some large diesel pushers can pull them but for the average motorhome, it's not practical or doable.
If anyone is interested, here are the details of the new 2018 JL Wranglers that will be replacing the current JK models.
2018 Wrangler JL
We tow either the Jeep JKUR or, our '11 GMC Sierra 1500 4x4 Extended Cab. Here in Lake Havasu City AZ, with a zillion snow birds migrating in, we see a very large percentage of them towing Jeeps, many Honda CRVs, quite a few standard sized pickups like ours and, then there's the dolly crowd. Not nearly as many dollies as the rest of the flat towed bunch. We just saw a Class C, about 25'-26' long, towing a full sized truck. Both the wife and I thought, hmmmm, pretty good load for a Class C. Apparently it works just fine for him/her.
