Every time this comes up, the Jeep owners jump in trying to justify to themselves and the world why they chose to overpay for a vehicle that isn't proportionately better than any other car. My DD went through this logic when she bought a Wrangler and it didn't make sense to me then either.
I'm not trying to justify anything. You are correct that a Jeep isn't better (or proportionately better) than any car. But cars can't go where Jeeps can go and Jeeps can do things cars can't do. And Wranglers are very easy to hookup to a motor home compared to SOME other types of vehicles that can be towed 4 down. (No pulling fuses, disconnecting batteries, leaving ignition on, etc).
If you don't want the capabilities of a Jeep and just need a tow vehicle then yes a Jeep is over priced and over kill for a towed. However, to compare a car to a Jeep is a little silly because they are produced for different kinds of driving. If you want to compare pricing, price other vehicles that have the same capabilities as the Wrangler and the price doesn't look so bad.
