Joining a camping group.

DW and I spend 2 months each winter in S Texas and love meeting up with our snowbird friends every year. But the rest of the year we do not have anybody to camp with. We enjoy our camping trips but think that we would enjoy them even more if we had some folks to "hang with". We are located in E Missouri and are looking for a FUN GROUP to join. Any suggestions?

  • Go to the Good Sam website, go to community, and to local chapters. Your state Good Sam director can hook you up.
  • If you like to cook, search for a Dutch Oven Group,"DOG" here in Las Vegas, the local dutch oven society meets once a month and camp and have a pot luck dutch oven meal.
  • Most clubs like Good Sam, FMCA, Escapees and others have "local chapters" that meet a few times per year all over the country but not camp together all the time. Most folks simply have different plans to visit areas at different time, time to spend with family and some do caravan into a large rally.

If you want a set group of folks to camp with you all of the time. You can try joining one of the major RVing clubs' chapters in your region and start asking if anyone will be available for what you want to do.

The main deal for many RVers is they are "free spirits", do what they want, where, when and usually on their own without trailing along with someone else. Some do attend annual rallies or go on long distance caravan tours. I think most full-timers have lived on a set schedule, had a large family, worked long hours, etc. that once they head out they want privacy, quiet and sometimes total solitude.

    Good luck!
  • We belonged to a camping group of owners of SunnyBrook RV's. This makes it nice if there are problems with the rig; someone in the group has the answer.
  • I think that almost every area has camping groups ... try GS or FMCA
