Just wondering

First thing to remember when posting on private forums is that 'free speech' does not apply. Sometimes posts or threads will be deleted, and you won't always be sure why. The moderators simply do not have enough resources to notify every person when something they posted is deleted.

Several of us have notified a mod about a poster who is frequently sarcastic, rude, and snarky with people he disagrees with regardless of the time of year. Nothing was done about the posts.

Most RVers are kind folks unless you try to walk all over them. Let's start deleting the rude and sarcastic posters who mistreat all the great RVers on here.

et2 .....I am not trying to justify anything, but it could be that you are seeing threads that are not moderated in a timely manner. I try to check my 2 forums several times a day and do rely on members to notify me if they sense a problem.

If you feel there is a real problem, do you notify a mod? Many of our mods have jobs and other obligations and none of us spends all their waking hours on the forums. I have been in a position where I have not had access for days and things slip through the cracks.

Violence should never be condoned and if it is suggested, a mod should be notified immediately.

We take our responsibilities seriously and do make mistakes....we are human first, and would not do the job unless we loved it.

Please take into account the tendency of posters to hide behind a keyboard...some will say things they would never say in person.

Thanks for your reply Dianne. I've seen post where the things you mentioned took place, and understandably shut down or altered. But on the other hand there are posters outright suggesting violence against someone and nothing is done. There have been Posts I have been part of where there was nothing bad going on and actually very civil just closed for no reason.

The only reason I posted this was I've noticed this is happening more often over the last 6 months or so. It just gets frustrating participating in a great thread and it gets shut down when nothing bad was happening, then seeing a post that should have been flushed a week ago going like the energizer bunny, insults flying at the speed of light.

I have a hard time getting my posts to stick in the General RV forum :)

I saw the thread about the ATC mod and went there out of curiosity. The mod has a stickythat clearly states the posting rules. I would imagine that those rules are strictly enforced as is the mods job. Some mods may enforce the rules strictly, while others may be more lax. It's not a demorcracy here. A mods personal beliefs most likely guide them in what posts they remove or edit. You need to learn what is allowed across the site. If confused, simply email them and ask.

I've only had a few posts deleted and they were richly deserved. On the other hand, I've also seen a lot of posts that were quite political remain in the threads, including posts from the moderators themselves.

BTW, I was observing the stupidity of a ban on outdoor campfires on the basis of "global warming" Sure, it pointed out the stupidity of some "gov't" person trying to push it in CA, but it wasn't as thought they were trying to hide their stupidity- they released it to the press.

Maybe that official is someone's B-I-L? :D
