K-5 a good toad?

I have an 1986 K-5 Chevy Blazer (CUCV) and would like to use it as a toad, the Army TMs say that I have to disconnect the drive shafts in order to tow over 50 MPH. Does anyone have any experience towing one of these.
Thanks
  • No experience and not sure if you can tow it four down but it would make a nice toad. I have gone round and round trying to get an answer on my 1983 f-250 with no luck. I too have a speed limitation only, which I don't understand. If the transfer case disconnects the drive lines the transmission is safe and if the transfer case will lube up to 50 mph why would it stop lubing at 51 mph.

Military Surplus Vehicle? The towing equipment outfit REMCO only lists 1996 and newer, so no joy there.
I think that what you'll need to do (and even more so if it's Surplus) is research the Transfer Case. With that info, you should be able to determine if it's OK as is and if not, what your options are.
