Keeping camper on site no tow vehicle

I'm sure each campground is different, but I know many that will let you "store" it right on that site (permanent site). Of course, you'll pay for that convenience.

Due to work schedules we camp approx five of six times a year and as of yet have camped no where outside a day's drive. With that, I "need" my tow vehicle maybe 10 or 12 days a year.

Be sure you are aware of all the charges up front... It will definitely be more than just a site rental fee - We checked into that once and there was a whole list of additional charges including a yearly hugh association fee if the RV is sitting on a designated space. You almost think you should own the lot but I'm not sure that is true. The best deal was like LAKEWOOD in Myrtle Beach does where your RV Unit is kept across the road in a hugh storage lot with all the other owner RV units. Then LAKEWOOD would tow the unit to the campground and set it up for you in one of their regular camping spots when you wanted to use it. We have camped at LAKEWOOD many times and there is alot of moving RV UNITS back and forth to the storage lots.

In Indiana it's uncommon when private campgrounds DO NOT provide this service. Have run into very few private campgrounds that will not provide this type of service, mostly because of flooding over the winter months and early spring. Very common in Indiana to store at the campground. As stated above however, it's not free though.

Here in WI, it's typical that seasonal campers are not moved...for years. There seem to be more seasonal site CGs that non. Sort of makes it annoying for us looking for a non-seasonal site.

Each CG is different, can't hurt to ask.

Most seasonal in our CG leave there campers on sight all yr. Quite a few are snowbirds, and dont have a tow vehicle. We choose to take ours home each fall. Our CG charges $300 to leave your tt for the off season.

My dad towed a pop-up into a CG in the mid 70's, never left. He has NEVER towed the last couple TTs; dealers delivered them right to his site. He liked the area so much, he eventually sold his house near the city, moved just outside the CG---can take his golfcart into the CG anytime he wants.

When dad put the trailer there, it was just a yearly fee. Now, my brother has the trailer, it is a yearly fee plus a monthly electric bill.

I thik that CG has 25-30 "weekender" sites, and over 200 permanent. Being in Pennsylvania, they are used mostly 3 seasons (water turned off in winter), but I know several guys that hunt/snowmobile out of them (one bathhouse remains heated & has water).

People take "ownership" of their sites...all kind of personalities on display. When I was a kid, many Moms & Kids would stay when dad went home for a week of work. I spent every weekend, and many weeks of my childhood summers there. Now, with both parents working, the place is pretty empty during the week. (we just spent 10 days in the weekender sites---full Fri-Sun, empty Mon-Thurs).

The places are like having a beach house/vacation home. No reason to move it if you do not want to. I prefer to move ours, see different places, meet different people. Yet, I still venture back to that CG at least once a year.


If you do NOT plan on using it EVERY weekend, I am sure other options are available. We have several CG in our area that provide onsite storage. Monthly/yearly fees apply. When you want to use it, a reservation is made for a camping site---the owner uses his tractor to put the trailer on the site.

Very common in New Hamshire. Seasonal sites, put it on a site and seasonal fees allows it to stay 12 months out of the year. Some let you use it in the winter some, just can't live in it for 12 month. Some places might charge a little extra to leave on site in the winter.
