LED replacement bulbs

Anyone have experience or comments on replacing some/all of the incandescent bulbs with LED's? They're expensive, but using the when off the grid might help with battery issues.

Seems like putting LED's in just a few fixtures. and using just those fixtures when boondocking, would provide enough light to function, with minimal battery drain.

  • A lot of info here if you do a search. So much in fact it overloaded me. Buy from here or there, China this or that, lums, brightness etc.....

I went to my RV guy with RV in his parking lot closed all drapes/curtains to get dark as possible and put the LED bulb he said was closet to what I had. Did a comparison side by side so to get same light as before.

Worked out good in every fashion except one important fact.

    Those things are expensive!

So we replaced just a couple at a time, starting with the ones we use most.

Still have 2 do swap out. Very pleased with results. Can go a lot longer on battery when boondocking.
  • I've been very happy with mine, purchased 3.5 years ago. They are a little dimmer than original incan's, but they use about 1/10 the power.

Of course, one could sink the money into a solar panel instead, and then it might not matter... depending on how much power you are using, of course.
  • Two years ago we replaced all the 12V automotive style bulbs(except tail lights) in and outside our 5r. Did a lot of research and ended up buying the Ming's 1156/1141 Green Long Life 330 Lumens LED Bulb. These produce a bright warm light. If I was to do this again, I would order the same LED's.

  • A lot written about the LED replacements on these forums. My experience? I'm 2 up and 2 down. Two vendors, both promising the same quality of light, both times I'm disappointed.

In my favor was the fact I only purchased 2 bulbs each time so I've not wasted much money. They produce light, but not good enough quality to read by.

    Good luck!
