One thing that isn't mentioned, is the age some young people are having their children. Our college educated young folks are often paying off student loans and getting well established in their careers before having children. My DD and SIL are a case in point. Several years ago, they tent camped at least several times a year. Like them, almost none of their friends had children although they were in their mid-20's. They moved cross country for career enhancement and used much of their vacation time to visit family thousands of miles away. Now they are in their late 20's and early 30's haven't camped recently as they now are parents of an infant. They are a bit closer, so may be able to meet for camping trips soon. I guess they have been camping some since when they visit here, my TT is their guest cottage.
