the Canadians can only stay 182 days or they loose their govt ins. if I understand correctly.

At least they only want "SOME" of yours, they seem to want "MOST" of ours. :(

Try up here the taxes are even worse. Only bonus is health care is pretty much included. Outside of that your take home taxes are a lot lower in the U.S. At least that is what some of my counterparts that work in my company that moved south from Canada so have experienced both.
