Level for fridge?

Nope...Used a little common sense. YMMV. Just did it one time, when first got our 5'r. Then calibrated our auto level system to that position. Now I just hit the button and don't need to worry.

Before I had this 5'r with the the auto level system, I had a pinbox level, that was set up according to the same method. Then I just held the buttons, until the pin box level was showing proper level. Consistently thick and round pancakes, and eggs that stayed in one place in the pan.

When we first got our current MH, I parked on our very slightly downhill (to the street) driveway, put the biggest bubble level I could fit into the bottom of the fridge, then juggled the jacking system to get level in both axes.

I then stuck two of the self-adhesive levels where I could easily see them from the driver's seat, getting their bubbles spot on. Levelling at a CG is easy now, unless the site is seriously off level. At daughter's house, we need blocks under the front jacks because of the driveway slope.

We're having a new fridge installed, so when we get the rig home from the repair place, I'll recheck.

Oh, I usually carry three 3 foot long 2x8 boards and also two sets of "lego" plastic leveling blocks. If I don't use them for actual leveling, it is remarkably convenient to have that stuff on hand - leveling the picnic table, base for the camping grill, etc.

Yep, level the stove! I did that when we first got our camper. If your refrig is out of level when your stove is level, your camper has some serious problems.

Once I leveled our camper the first time (in our driveway), I simply stuck little camper level indicators on the front corner of the TT (front and side), checking them when leveling side to side and where I usually am when cranking the tongue jack.

Friends of ours rarely bother leveling their campers. It just drives me nuts to have an unlevel camper, difficult to sleep and cook when things are at an angle. Once you do it a few times, leveling really takes no time at all.

If you depend on a little 2" diameter round level to level anything and you think it is accurate you are so wrong.

You would be far better off using a 2' level on the floor.

I adjusted my 5er one time with a laser level so the bottom of the frame was level. I then glued on two Hoppy levels one by the leveling controllers and one under the overhang on the front. I taped them in the level position and removed the tape a few days later when the adhesive was set.

So when I pull into a camp site I look at the level under the front that reads side to side and guesstimate how much blocking it will take to being it ip to level. Once that is done I remove the TV from the RV and adjust the front to back level.

This way my RV is always perfectly level.

I carry 10"X10" plywood blocks of varying sizes from 1/4, 1/2, 3/4, 1 1/8" and also a couple 10" long 4X10's for those really out of level conditions.

Lazer levels are very inexpensive these days and they will come in handy for example then the wife says the painting is not level!

I took the time to level really well so the bubble level in the fridge was perfect. Then I put a good blob of silicone adhesive beside my cup holder and set a bubble level in it, adjusted to show level. Now I just use that bubble when camping. I used those angles to calculate how far out I can be on the wheels and it was an inch and a half. So I carry pieces of plank and one 3/4 inch board. But usually I can get it close enough just wiggling around a bit in the site.

The most inconvenient thing is stopping for shopping or food. It can be tricky to find a level spot to park or to remember to turn Mr Fridge back on when leaving. Someone should make a device that chirps when out of level.

There is only one level then there are degrees of out of level…

when it comes to level and your fridge the question becomes what is the level of risk you are willing to accept if it fails… you are completely on your own there…

remember the mfgs. also say operating out of level is not covered by the warranty and the warranty doesn’t use the comfortable description…

The three important issues for adsorption fridges are level, good airflow, and precise heat…

Damage is usually slow but cumulative and permanent… the damage is caused by overheating the fluid and with a constant heat source the fluids temp is regulated by the speed that it circulates… operating out of level slows circulation and overheats the fluid…
The fluid is water, ammonia, and rust inhibiturs… when overheated the rust inhibitors chemically breakdown and crystalize, permanently… this causes the rust inhibitors to become less effective in the steel tubes and allow them to rust internally until rust through… if there is enough crystallization itself or combined with rust particles can plug the tube and block all circulation forever… Absorption fridges are completely dependent on gravity to function…

These things are made to last a long time, the mfg. is only concerned with the first year or two…
Following their instructions of comfortable will almost assuredly get you past their responsibility and just as assuredly shorten it’s useful life…
There is just no way to measure the damage and no way to predict when it will fail…

It may never be perfect but the more level it is the better it will work and the longer it will last…
As expensive as they are I will take the time to level the best I can or turn it off if I can’t…


if I were you, instead of asking here, I would search the professionals that repair them and replace cooling units on a daily basses… I doubt you will find one that recommends almost level, and chances are all will stress the importance of level operation……

I plop my smartphone on a table. If it is within three degrees of level every way, then I plop it in the freezer compartment. If OK there, then I'm done.
