Lighting the oven

Lighting the oven in our 5er is a PITA. Why don't they have an igniter for this like the 3 burners ? We don't use the oven much when we are south for about 5 months but getting down on my knee's (worse getting back up) is getting old real fast. And I'd rather not leave the pilot light on.

Your lucky you have a igniter for your 3 burners. A lot of us have to still light them by hand too.

Had a buddy that smoked and thought he was smart. Turned the gas on to the burner and the fiddled around trying to find his cigarette lighter. When he finally found it and put it to the burner the flame burned all the hair off of his hand and part of his arm.

We picked on him all weekend for that one. :p
  • I've added the battery powered piezoelectric igniter to our oven. It makes life a lot easier on the knees. It's not that hard and works great.

You really have to get on your knees?

Yes I have to get on my knee's. Wish it was a wall oven like my last house.

  • I would take the tray above the burner out and then light the pilot. Easy access that way.
  • Good question. Just last weekend I helped an older couple light theirs for the reasons you described. It was well worth the effort as they fed me like royalty.
