Another alternative to the OP's problem is an auxiliary dump valve in place of the original cap. Your local dealer will likely have to order it but the little buggers will never notice it. I ordered one because one of my grays was leaking at the remote cable operated valve and I took the easy route. It has the standard twist on attachment, and then your cap goes on that. I positioned it so that the pull handle is not subject to getting hit by road stuff and the result was that is is shielded behind the lower shirt on the body and not visible.
It allows me to connect the hose with zero surprises as that valve stays closed except when dumping. Google Valterra T58 for pics. They call it a twist on dump valve. The back side in the pic is vague but it is the 4 pin male side.
