I'd try the grease.. used to have kids using my backyard (and the neighbor behind me) as a short cut. they were jumping over a short chain link fence, so I greased up the parts that they would likely grab in order to hop over.. That stopped it cold..
Makes sure that whatever you use will not damage the plastic though.. maybe silicone grease?
