The structure in my photo extends very low under my hitch. It is so low, it drags on most driveway entrances and exits. Other than making the hitch less adjustable for another rig in the future, is there any downside of bandsawing it off?

I cut off several inches on a couple of those, including the one I've been using for more than ten years. No problems what so ever.

i would cut it off. Just leave enough material so it doesn't compromise the bolt hole above it.Barney

I would cut it off, but leave it a little longer than the equalizer bars hang down. You may wind up having to replace them in the future

If you are that tight on ground clearance you may be better off with a trunnion type setup.Sorry, looks like you pointed to the drop hitch. I agree you could cut that or try a different drop.

Yes you can trim it down a bit. But make sure you're only trimming the part that's in free air. I wouldn't cut anything that is between the clamped pieces.If you want to avoid cutting you could try disassembling the hitch and flipping that part over. But my guess is then it will stick up too high and interfere with the tailgate opening.

From that perspective it doesn't look "that" low, but it also doesn't look like you're using the wd bars, or the front end has a leveling kit?

Trailer has leaf springs?
If so, make it easy, flip the hitch, which will raise it slightly and remove the low hanging encumbrance. And if the trailer sits a tad nose high, it won't really hurt anything. That's what I'd try fist before going through the trouble of sawing off a solid 2x2 bar.

Bad idea there. THat would LIFT the tow vehicle when entering driveways, etc.
